中國援建斯裡蘭卡港口即將完工
隨著斯裡蘭卡總統馬欣達?拉賈派克薩轉動方向盤，由中國援建的斯裡蘭卡漢班托特港16日開始注水，標誌著該工程接近完工。印度此時正在後悔錯失了這樣一個良機。
報道稱，在2002年，漢班托特港開始競標的時候，印度拒絕了參與修建，而中國則以15億美元接手了這項工程。今年11月，第一艘船有望停靠在該港口，該港口旨在幫助斯裡蘭卡恢復昔日的貿易樞紐地位。拉賈派克薩反覆強調了該港口以商業為中心，並指出中國還幫助斯裡拉卡援建了很多大項目，包括在漢班托特港口附近的機場。
16日的注水使印度陷入了新一輪的焦慮當中，他們擔心斯裡蘭卡港口的成功建設可能會使中國得到修建巴基史丹、馬來西亞等國港口的機會。印度的安全分析人士擔心，該港口屬於中國在印度洋建立一系列港口的“珍珠鏈策略”的一部分。
